Fexofenadine, the active component of Delfex, is a selective histamine H1 receptor inverse agonist. Upon exposure to allergens, immune cells such as mast cells and basophils release histamine, triggering allergic symptoms like a runny nose, itching, sneezing, and watery eyes.
Fexofenadine stabilizes the inactive form of the H1 receptor, thereby preventing activation and histamine-induced inflammatory responses. It exhibits high specificity for peripheral H1 receptors without interacting with dopamine, serotonin, cholinergic, or adrenergic receptors. Notably, it does not cross the blood-brain barrier, minimizing the risk of central nervous system side effects such as sedation.
1. Allergic Rhinitis:
Delfex is indicated for managing both seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above. It effectively alleviates symptoms like sneezing, nasal discharge, itchy or watery eyes, and irritation of the nose, palate, and throat. It also contributes to improved daily functioning and quality of life.
2. Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria:
Delfex is also indicated for treating chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and adolescents 12 years and older. It helps reduce the number and severity of hives and relieves itching, thereby enhancing patient comfort and work productivity.
